Onondaga County sheriff's deputies say a fugitive who had been posing as a contractor to steal from victims has been captured.
Deputies say Syracuse police were called to Lowe's, where a caller said he recognized someone as a fugitive. Police located and arrested Jesse Stokes of Syracuse. Stokes had been wanted by the Sheriff's office since February on larceny charges. Stokes allegedly posed as a contractor and would collect money for jobs that he would never do.
Deputies say they believe many of Stokes' victims did not report the theft out of fear of retaliation. They urge anyone who might have been a victim to contact the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office at 315-435-2470.
