The man first on the scene of the brutal kidnapping, rape and murder scene in Clay earlier this year will receive a prestigious state award.
The state will honor Bill Cregg, who found Lori Bresnahan near death shortly after she was repeatedly stabbed by David Renz. He held her until she passed away, and made sure the 10-year-old rape victim was safe as well. Renz pleaded guilty to murder and sexual abuse charges in July. Cregg will receive the New York Senate Liberty Award in September. The date is still to be determined, but the ceremony will be held in the State Office Building in Syracuse.
