Syracuse police turned a traffic stop into three arrests and the recovery of a loaded stolen handgun.
An officer on patrol says he saw a vehicle run a stop sign at Rowland and Arthur Streets and pulled the vehicle over. As it did, an occupant tossed out what appeared to be a handgun. Additional officers arrived on scene and all three occupants were taken into custody. Police found a loaded .38 caliber handgun that was later determined to be stolen. All three were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property and were taken to the Justice Center to await arraignment.
The suspects were identified as 27-year-old Haithem Hasan, the driver, passenger 17-year-old Richard Chatman, both of Syracuse, and 18-year-old Romeo Williams of Solvay.
