Sesame Street Celebrates 50 Years Of Music!

No matter what genre of music a person likes, its very likely that the individual grew up singing to songs from Sesame Street! The iconic show turns 50 this year, so more than likely, most of us grew up watching the show and singing to its music. So how does the legendary show keep its music so relevant? According to President of Curriculum and Content, Rosemarie Truglio and Musical Director, Bill Sherman, it takes a lot of work!

Sherman says that Sesame Street’s musical success has to do with its ability to “change with the times.” The music of the show has to adapt to the changing musical taste of the audience.

Truglio agrees. When she listens to a prospective song, she listens to the auditory appeal to the children it must reach. “It’s got to be appealing and engaging, because without appeal and engagement, we can’t teach,” she says. Well however they do it, it’s been successful for 50 years. Let’s hope it continues for another 50 years!
