Have you heard of Madam CJ Walker? She's the first female self-made millionaire in the US. She was born down south to two former slaves and was orphaned at 7 years old. She married at 14 and was widowed, with a daughter, by the age of 20. She had a scalp disorder that caused her hair to fall out, so she played around with various products. She then began selling those hair and scalp care ointments and started her very own company after her second marriage. She toured all around the US giving demonstrations and selling her product, even opening her own beauty school. She basically developed a market for black women's hair care. When she died in 1919, she left 2/3 of her fortune to black charities. That's pretty Badass if you ask me, Madam CJ Walker! Learn all about her here!
